Meet the Founder of SYRUP...

Hello! My name is Mali Mae. You might know me as the founder of SYRUP but I am also an independent artist, a songwriter, a vocal arranger and a vocal coach.

Having previously released an EP in 2017,  followed by my debut album in 2019, Personal, that was recorded, in part, at Decoy Studios - famously known for their work with the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Florence and the Machine and Ed Sheeran, I am now focused on expanding my offering as an industry professional.

Some of my already existing credentials include list performaning on the National Television Awards in 2023, curating choral arrangements for the likes of Cian Ducrot and recording vocal demos for Anne Marie, I am always on the look out for more collaborations within the industry!

I am a classically trained musician (I am a violinist by trade)  and a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music. I grew up playing in orchestras, singing in choirs, performing in theatres and  eventually, writing my own songs.

On a day-to-day basis I offer private music tuition for vocalists, choral or string arrangements for live or recorded performances/songs, live music for functions and  I also offer songwriter sessions.

Why I created SYRUP...

I have over 10 years of experience of working within the music industry and  have experienced the peak and  troughs of the industry first hand.

I have spent years being underpaid or not paid at all for my work and time, being put under enormous amounts of pressure to sell tickets to shows with only a minimal following and  a general sense that the industry is becoming unnecessarily competitive.

So, I decided to try and  make a difference. That's why I created SYRUP. It encompasses all the things the music industry currently lacks for grass roots musicians: community, a support network, transparency, inclusivity and fair pay.

SYRUP brings you back to the core value of music which is to bring people together. Music is for everyone to enjoy and  without grass roots musicians, the music industry wouldn't exist.

Coming to a SYRUP event, is a super easy way to support up and  coming musicians, make a positive impact on the industry all whilst enjoying the good vibes, good people and  great music.
